One last thing.
If the rules for the debate did indeed suggest "formal wear" (and that exact wording is important for this point) then none of the campaigns met that standard. Formal wear is a tuxedo for men and an evening dress for women. A jacket and tie is not formal wear.
Cotillion lesson over.
debate clarification
To provide some clarification about dress-
"Dress should be professional. " was what the emailed debate format ground rules included. I am not an expert, but my assumption is that 'professional' does include a suit/tie etc. The 'should be' is what allegedly allowed Bailey and Jacob to debate. Each candidate was asked whether they were ok with them debating. There was some contention among the candidates, and we had to reach a unanimous decision. Obviously, we decided it was ok-
Hope this helps as well- don't ask why I'm not sleeping and instead checking comments to a blog-

Wow, just wow.
What was up with the cross-questioning section? Did the candidates realize how pathetic and petty ambush questions would make them look? I wonder that resembles business as usual for the student government. The Tracy Flick behavior of some of those campaigns on the stage really embarrassed me as a George Mason student.
By the way...
what's the deal with some of the campaign chalking being defaced?
Chalking
Could you provide some examples? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Thanks!
Examples
In front of Harris Theater and Robinson A. In front of the Damon/Chik-Fil-A entrance at Sub II. This is not rain or gradual wear. You see "Vote" clearly written and then the name completely rubbed out.
If you want a second confirmation you can check with Professor Michael McDonald - we joked about it in class today.
Those were the only two I saw but from what he said I gathered there were more. Like I said, this mirrors the movie "Election".
Update: I'm pretty sure one of the defaced chalking was an advertisement for the Godlewski/Bowen campaign, but don't quote me on that: it was defaced.
Chalking Response
Great. Thanks!
Chalking
It is my understanding that the Godlewski/Bowen campaign had a grievance hearing last evening. Following that hearing, I saw Ms. Bowen removing chalk around campus. My assumption is that their sanction from the hearing was that they remove their chalking across campus. That is all I know in this regard.
I hope this helps clarify-

Did you think the questions you asked tonight were appropriate?
I was disappointed with your questions and remarks, quite honestly.
questions
I understand that some of our questions were taken out of context, or due to the feel of the debate, were seen as harsh. I apologize if any candidate felt personally attacked, as we were trying to look at each candidates ability to lead, and their experience working with the administration.

Godlewski/Bowen Chalking
Thanks Nicole.
chalk
no problem.
You can check http://sg.gmu.edu/sec/grievances/ to see the official sanction once it is put up. (it isn't currently there). I am just speculating as I know they had a hearing, and then I saw them removing chalk.
