SARMA Day 1 Opening Remarks (5/13)

Fri, 05/16/2008 - 13:04
Well I promised some posts about the 2nd Annual SARMA Conference and here they are. To start the day off we had a display of our nations colors and singing of the National Anthem put on by the George Mason University’s Police Force. This was the first time that this had ever happened and I felt it was rather important so hopefully the tradition continues on to next year. Our first speaker of the day was Mr. Ed Jopek who is the current president of SARMA. We were the only school group in at

“Intellectual Defense of Capitalism”

Mon, 05/12/2008 - 09:58
In his many excellent publications, Dr. Walter Williams (professor at George Mason University, writer, part-time radio talk show substitute, and my hero) defends capitalism many different ways.  Most importantly, he uses logic.  Last October he wrote an article that I enjoyed moderately at the time, but I find it more important today in defending capitalism vs. socialist ideals currently taking over our country.  Recently, it seems that every time I get into discussions about the value of cap

Essays Need Not Apply [Finals]

Sun, 05/11/2008 - 06:39
Hurm... Finals. For the English major side of me this means lots of essays. Now there are the good essays, like the one I have to write for this independent study (coming soon!). There are also dumb essays. Like the ones I have to write for everything else. Dear Professors, please note: Assigning essays about the content of books read in class is not a test of reading ability or a way to check if the student has read the book, it is a test of the student's ability to use a search engine. Schlafly: Ben Stein Provokes the Liberals’ Wrath

Thu, 05/08/2008 - 08:30
Schlafly: Ben Stein Provokes the Liberals’ Wrath by Phyllis Schlafly Ben Stein is known to many as an actor on Comedy Central. But the funniest part about his latest movie called “Expelled” is not any clever lines spoken by Stein but the hysterical way the liberals are trying to discourage people from seeing it. Stein’s critics don’t effectively refute anything in “Expelled”; they just use epithets to ridicule it and hope they can make it go away. However, it won’t go away; even Scientific A

Mon, 05/05/2008 - 17:42
I just completed work on my final project for English 344. It is the initial draft for the Merely Players universe, an idea that's been brewing in the back of my head since I was in Cambridge this summer. Check it out.

The Gifts of Gordon Bradley

Sat, 05/03/2008 - 21:54
Unless you are a soccer fan, the name Gordon Bradley may not mean much to you. And yet, he was a man who touched thousands of lives here in the Washington area and nationally during the past 35 years. Bradley was a soccer coach, a very successful one with the New York Cosmos and the Washington Diplomats of the old North American Soccer League and later at George Mason University. But he was far more than that. He was a soccer teacher– not just in the sense of teaching players the intricacies o

Democrats and Republicans Debate At GMU

Thu, 04/24/2008 - 10:56
Last week there was a debate between the GMU College Democrats and the GMU College Republicans that was held at the food court in the Johnson Center. When you consider that the event was held in the same area that Sen. Obama spoke to literally thousands of people and is a prime campus gathering space, I think it’s safe to say that this was a good setting to reach out to the student population. This was furthered by the fact that the debate took place at lunch time, so many people took the oppo
