Lady Patriots open three-game home stand with 60-51 loss to Northeastern Huskies

It was a frigid night outside and inside the Patriot Center on Tuesday night, as the Patriots went cold and fell to the Northeastern University Huskies, 60-51.

The Patriots (6-10,1-4) were off to a blistering start, capitalizing on early jumpers thanks to weaknesses in the Huskies 2-3 zone. Senior guard Rahneeka Saunders, who finished with 17 points and five assists, led Mason to a 15-8 lead after six minutes of play.

However, the Huskies (11-6, 4-2) quickly used their size advantage down low and fought back to tie the game just three minutes later.

Saunders, Patriots outlast UAB for 58-55 win Sunday

The George Mason University women’s basketball team defeated the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers by a narrow 58-55 margin at the Patriot Center in Fairfax on Sunday.

The Patriots’ attack was once again led by senior guard Rahneeka Saunders who led the team in scoring with 16 points. Saunders, who came in yesterday’s match off a 33-point, career-high game against Drake University last Saturday, also registered three assists.

Saunders, Patriots handle UMES Hawks in lopsided home opener win, 64-38

The George Mason University women’s basketball team handed the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore Hawks a lopsided 64-38 loss at the Patriot Center Tuesday night.

Senior guard Rahneeka Saunders scored a game-high 13 points, led the team with four steals and registered two assists to help the Lady Patriots (1-1) pick up a fifth win in as many meetings against the Hawks.

2012-2013 Mason women's basketball preview

The Mason women’s basketball season has officially started with a fall to the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, 62-58 on Nov. 9. The first home opener is in sight and it is due time to preview the Lady Patriots’ season.

At the Patriot Center at George Mason University, the men's and women's basketball teams ushered in the next chapter of the Mason basketball story at the annual Mason Madness event.  

Women's hoops season comes to an end with loss to JMU

Plagued by turnovers all night, George Mason lost in the quarterfinals to second-seeded James Madison, 64-54, at the CAA Championships in Upper Marlboro, Md.  Amber Easter, who finished with 11 points in the game, committed a team high seven turnovers.

Women’s hoops ends six-year winless drought in CAA Tournament

Riding a late rally in the second half, the George Mason Patriots pulled away from Northeastern for their first win in the CAA Women’s Basketball Championships since 2006 by a final count of 70-60 Thursday night. The win helps prove that this program is on the upswing, led by head coach Jeri Porter and her recruiting classes, anchored by junior Amber Easter.

“It feels good to get a win, but we know we have to get right back at it tomorrow.  There is no sitting around,” assistant coach Greg Pulliam said.

George Mason (14-15, 8-10) came out strong, but couldn’t match the intensity of rival James Madison as they fell 66-54 in the Patriot Center Wednesday night.  The Dukes fielded four players in double-digit scoring in route to their seventh straight 20-win season under the direction of head coach Kenny Brooks.

Moton goes for 31 as women's hoops downs Georgia State in overtime

When the women’s basketball team needed an answer, they knew right where to look.

As the clock winded down in overtime, Taleia Moton sank two free throws to give George Mason a 70-68 win at the Patriot Center Sunday afternoon over Georgia State.  Moton ended the game with 31 points. The win comes on the 38th anniversary of Mason’s first ever win as a women’s basketball program and brings head coach Jeri Porter to within three wins of the 200 benchmark.

Women's hoops falls to Hofstra, 82-70

As the women’s team walked off the floor Sunday afternoon, their heads spoke of disappointment but their actions on the court spoke of effort.

After being down by as many as 13 points mid-way through the first half the George Mason women’s basketball team used strong offensive rebounding and scoring runs to bring the game to within two points.  A valiant effort, but Mason couldn’t shake Hofstra as the fell on their home court 82-70.
