Camo Lover

When you think of the word camo, either two things come to mind: the army and/or the camo print cargo shorts boys used to wear in 5th grade. I mean, EVERYONE had them. However, as it’s popularity decreased throughout the years, the camo print was thought of as tacky as close-toed Fisherman sandals (which I shamefully admit to have worn once).

One day as I was shopping around the racks at American Eagle Outfitters, I came across a shirt which was in no other print than camo. After staring at the shirt for endless minutes like an art enthusiast stares at a Matisse, I shook my head and left the store. “Ha! Camo . . . who would wear it?” I thought.

Well friends, it turns out that I, myself, would end up wearing that camo shirt. After walking around the mall, something magical happened. I had that evil (or good, in most cases) voice inside my head that kept telling me, “Paola . . . Paola . . . You know you want it . . . Look at the potential.” As always, I caved in and I haven’t looked back since!

One of the main factors that attracted me to the print was purely its versatility. With camo being composed mainly of neutral colors, I found it easy to mix and match it with other neutrals in my closet such as pants, coats, shoes, and accessories. Also, although I is a very eye-caching print, if you accessorize it correctly, you won’t have people staring at you, wondering if you’re in the army or not/

Camo, you have found yourself a new fan! Camo is back and here to stay!

Ways to Wear Camo:

Julie Sarinana wears camo by mixing two types of denim to make the look casual. She adds white denim shorties to brighten up the neutral color pallet (Photo courtesy of sincerelyjules.com).

Sophomore Andie Rowell gives her camo pants an edgy and urban look by pairing it  up with a leather jacket and wedge sneakers. Love it! (Photo by Paola Torrico).

I decided to wear my camo shirt (yes, the one I HAD to have!) with leather pants to give the look and edge and I paired it up with heels to soften up the whole look and make it feminine (Photo by Paola Torrico).
