The Mason Cable Network in collaboration with Connect2Mason will begin broadcasting home club football games in their entirety, beginning with this Saturday's home opener against Onondaga College at 2 p.m. This will mark the first time in George Mason University's history that a student media outlet will broadcast a televised club sport game.

Mason club football finished the 2011 season with a Mid-Atlantic Conference championship against Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently in contention for a National Club Football Association championship this season. The team is ranked No. 8 in the NCFA’s pre-season rankings.

The team’s recent success opens the door for an opportunity to showcase those successes on a larger scale, particularly television and online streaming video.

"It's the right moment to do so and to bring awareness to the team. It will be groundbreaking. We're making Mason history," said MCN general manager Jake McLernon.

MCN has assembled a crew of four video operators who will be working behind the scenes to produce the live video stream. The broadcast will feature two cameras: one with a wide-angle camera, set on the 45 yard line and a second camera on both commentators and the field scoreboard.

Commentators will include freshman Tyler Byrum as the play-by-play commentator. Former Patriots quarterback, Jack Langley will work as the color commentator. Langley started all four years at quarterback for the Patriots and has an extensive knowledge of the players, coaching staff and program.

“The great thing about the broadcast is that it provides a platform for the team to get more attention and more exposure especially after last season’s success,” said Langley. "If there is a strong interest in football at Mason, then administration will have to consider moving to varsity."

Upcoming televised home games include Coppin State (Oct. 13, 3 p.m.) and Radford University (Nov. 3, 3 p.m.).

The broadcast will begin 30 minutes before kick-off and will be aired live on Connect2Mason.

MCN can be found on your campus TV on Channel 231. For more information, visit http://www.masoncablenetwork.com or watch the MCN commercial below.
