Homecoming is here, a week of free swag and great times.

This year’s homecoming goes on a magic pumpkin ride from Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.

Connect2Mason soared through the schedule and asks you to be Mason’s guest at our favorite events of the Disney-themed week. You can check out the full schedule of events at homecoming.gmu.edu.

I Just Can’t Wait to be Mason Majesty

What it is: During this Homecoming pageant, Mason Majesty contestants will go on stage in Dewberry Hall at 8 p.m. to tell us about themselves, their talents and Mason trivia.

Why it’s our pick: What better way to start off Homecoming Week than seeing the Princes and Princesses of Mason introduce themselves and start on their adventure to become Mason Majesty? You might also get a laugh or two.

Where: Dewberry Hall, 8 -10 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 31
You Ain’t Never Had a Patriot Like Me

What it is: Mason students can come out and either watch or be watched while their various talents are put to the test. The GMU faculty or staff members will choose the winner.

Why it’s our pick: With a top cash prize of $100, it’s going to get pretty wacky on stage. There are bound to be people with both interesting and silly talents that will come on stage. If you aren’t coming to see the talents, at least you’ll be entertained.

Where: The HUB Ballroom, 8 - 10 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 1
Just Keep Singing

What it is: Mason’s 2nd annual Lip-Sync competition is going to be filled with teamwork, spirit and a whole lot of dancing.

Why it’s our pick: Since contestants will judged on all counts, the fun of the night will come from their creative and energetic choreography along with their singing. There’s sure to be some pretty amazing routines that come out of this competition. Did we mention that there’s a $100 top prize, too?

Where: The HUB Ballroom, 8-10 p.m

Thursday, Feb. 2

It’s Off to Mine We Go (www.facebook.com/events/322939911071956/)

What it is: Just like the seven dwarves, come out and mine for precious gem stones using sifters and determination.

Why it’s our pick: Though many might pass over this event on the schedule, we think it’s going to be a thrill. Who wouldn’t want to find some pretty rocks in the sand, especially if their in spirit of Snow White.

Where: North Plaza, 12-3 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 3
MGC Presents The Face-Off: Part III

What it is: The Multicultural Greek Council fraternities and sororities will stroll, step and salutes in an exciting exhibition of Greek spirit and tradition.

Why it’s our pick: Though there’s a treasure hunt earlier in the day and a Homecoming party later in the night, we think it’s important to experience the diversity and culture of our Greek system. The steps, strolls and salutes of the various organizations can be very elaborate and enthralling.

Where: The HUB Ballroom, 7-9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 4
14th Annual Block Party and Tailgate

What it is: After a long week of magical events, it’s time to celebrate Mason. Come together with friends, family, alumni and fellow students to enjoy the food, drinks and camaraderie that this University has to offer.

Why it’s our pick: If there’s nothing else you go to during Homecoming week, it’s this. The block party is always the best time to be a part of the Mason Nation. Though there isn’t a parade before the celebration, it’s won’t detract from the tailgating experience. It’s all about being with your friends and cheering on your school.

Where: Lot A, 2-3:40 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 4
Mason Men’s Basketball vs. Old Dominion University

What it is: The Mason Patriots will battle the ODU Monarchs in a game that is sure to be remembered. That is, until the next one.

Why it’s our pick: Every Homecoming ends with a big bang and what better way to end the festivities, than by playing another CAA opponent at home in the Patriot Center? Come out and support the Patriots as we take down the Monarchs.

Where: Patriot Center, 5 p.m.
