The University Scholars Program and the Homemade Afghan Projects intend to sponsor a Knitting Extravaganza to provide blankets for wounded veterans at Walter Reed Hospital.
On Friday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in JC's Meeting Room C, participants can enjoy free food and conversation while they knit for a good cause.

The University Scholars' Knitting Extravaganza was inspired by several members of our Service Committee that wanted to incorporate the knitting skills of some of our members into a way to help our community. We thought a knitting project would be fun for people to get involved with since it required the time and skill of participants, and not simply a cash donation.
After some research, we found the Handmade Afghans Project that would help provide wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. with home-made blankets from the area. Since they only required small six-by-nine-inch rectangles, it seemed like a project that both experienced knitters as well as those willing to learn for the first time could easily take part in.
Providing yarn, needles and refreshments, several people assembled at our first event on Sunday, February 17 for an evening of knitting and conversation. Already we have about fifteen completed rectangles with several more in progress and are looking forward to our next event on Friday.
