They Said: Students On the Sex Workers' Art Show
By Connect Mason Reporter Sharmin Islam
The Sex Workers' Art Show performance included men and women from all areas of the sex industry including strippers, prostitutes, dommes, film stars, phone sex operators and more. As the show concluded, many bundled into groups to speak to the actors and ask questions.
Amongst them was Catrina Belt, a junior at George Mason University majoring in communication. When asked what she thought of the show she said, "I loved it! It was funny, graphic, just everything!"
When asked whether the performers changed her perception of the sex industry, she replied, "My perception didn't change, I have no bad perception at least."
Based on the information that thrown at the audience, the appropriateness of the show was also questioned. Did the show seem appropriate, inappropriate, or even offensive in any way?
"The show was appropriate, we are all college students, and adults," said Belt. "Everyone has interacted with sex workers at one point or another so it shouldn't be inappropriate to anyone."
Another student, Megan Cipperly, a sophomore at Mason, majoring in conflict analysis thought differently about the sex industry. She pointed out that different acts brought up different topics.
"Some acts were oppressive and others liberating," she proclaimed. She too felt that this show was appropriate for the public.
