EarthFest To Rock Mason's Eco-Friendly Efforts
By Broadside News Editor Asma Chaudhary
Broadside is pairing up with the George Mason University Environmental Awareness group to bring the first annual EarthFest to Mason.
EarthFest was created to raise awareness about global environmental issues and educating on the topic of sustainability—and how students can make little changes to make a change in the environment, like Broadside is making an effort to lead a recycling movement on campus through their “Bin Broadside” campaign.
To help spread the idea of becoming more environmentally friendly, we have invited Ralph Nader, Independent candidate for the President of the United States, former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel, and Gerry Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to speak about how they play a role in the environment.
The musical guests include the following local bands: Colin Healy and the Jetskis, Shapiro, The Speaks, Everyone But Pete, Square Trio, Bob and Mambo Sauce.
The event will be featuring environmentally conscious vendors and exhibitors to educate students about sustainable food, materials and merchandise, while passing out free prizes. There will also be activities such as a recycling bin painting event and how to properly use recycle bins on-site.
The event will also feature information booths about environmental organizations, environmentally friendly companies and ways that students can be environmentally friendly on their campuses, giving them knowledge to influence their families and global communities after the event.
All activities of the day are free.
Also, be sure to check out Nicole Ocran's piece on Square Trio.
