The George Mason Men’s squad (1-0) opened their season with a 66-53 victory over Harvard at home last Saturday in front of an energetic crowd.

Despite a slow start, they gradually found their rhythm and were able to pull away from the Crimson as the second half progressed. They had a balanced offensive attack with lots of players contributing valuable minutes off the bench.

The Patriots, who are predicted to finish second in the CAA only behind ODU, will continue action Thursday night at 8:30 against Charlotte (1-1) in the ESPN Charleston Classic in Charleston, SC. Mason leads the all-time series against Charlotte 2-0. The game will be aired on MASN.

“The talent level in any of these ESPN exempt events is outstanding,” Head Coach Jim Larranaga said. “In the last few years we’ve opened up against Kansas State, Dayton, last year Villanova, and this year UNC Charlotte, an Atlantic-10 team that’s very talented.”

The field in Charleston is highlighted by the 20th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas. The Patriots will play three games in just four days during the tournament. After Charlotte, they will either face N.C. State or East Carolina Friday night.

“We’re probably the underdog in every game we play,” Larranaga said.
