'No impact on library operations' after minor flood

Part of Fenwick Library flooded last week due to heavy rains and a blocked drain.

“We did have some water enter the basement of Fenwick Library overnight on Thursday night,” said Dorothy Lockaby, head of University Libraries Access Services.

Lockaby cited the reason for the flooding as heavy rains that came into the area last week coupled with a blocked drain.

The flooding occurred in the basement of the A Wing portion of the library. According to Lockaby, staff from the University Physical Plant assisted the library staff in cleaning up the water. The affected area is now dry.

As for books, Lockaby said that none of the circulating collections were damaged.

“None of our circulating collections are stored in the basement, so there was no impact on library operations from this incident,” said Lockaby.
