Softball Drops Weekend Series to Madison

In the previous 11 games, the George Mason Patriots' softball team had been able to score enough runs to back up solid pitching performances.

This past weekend, the offense could not get anything going.

Despite Becky Anderson pitching her third complete game in two days, George Mason (19-29, 6-11 CAA) was not able to put any runs on the board against Meredith Felts and James Madison (27-20, 11-6 CAA) in a 3-0 defeat Sunday at George Mason Field.

For those that have not caught on to the national craze of Mixed Martial Arts, MMA, Saturday was the perfect opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at one of the fastest rising sports in the world.

The Ultimate Warrior Challenge, UWC, brought Invasion to the Patriot Center, drawing a strong number in the seats of the arena nestled 20 minutes southwest of Washington, D.C.

Radford Club a Bleak Reminder of Mason Football

It is late April. Campuses across the country are lively with students who'd rather hit the lawns to sun bathe or toss the football instead of study.

While wannabe jocks and the occasional fan toss the pigskin around for fun, college teams hit the field to participate in a few weeks of spring practice. The NCAA allows returning players the chance to reunite and get a head start on the upcoming season.

Why would this be big at George Mason? What is the draw or point for a school that does not field a varsity football team?
