Mason men's basketball falls to GW, 75-69

George Washington men’s basketball defeated Mason on Saturday at the Patriot Center, 75-69. The Colonials improve to 16-3 overall and 4-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Patriots dropped to 7-13 and 0-6 in conference. All five starters finished in double-figures for the Colonials, with forward Kevin Larsen and guard Joe McDonald each with 14.

From Paul VI to Mason, Holloway shoots for success

When Paul Hewitt signed on to coach the Mason men’s basketball team in May 2011, he needed a shooter. So, he turned straight away to longtime acquaintance and AAU coach, Keith Stevens, who gave him one name: Patrick Holloway.

“I actually started recruiting him before I even saw him play a high school game,” said Hewitt. “And, we were fortunate enough to get him.”

Mason men’s basketball let another close fought game slip through the fingertips in the waning minutes last night.

Traveling north to take on Fordham in a battle of teams winless in Atlantic 10 play, Mason struggled to hold onto a 10-point lead in the second half. 

After scoring only 36 points through the first 25 minutes of play, Fordham’s offense clicked over the final 15 minutes. Connecting on nearly 71 percent of their attempted field goals, the Rams stormed past the Patriots for a 76-70 victory.

Coming off an 80-77 win over the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday night at home, Mason (7-6) looks to keep their two-game winning streak alive as they face off against this former Colonial Athletic Association conference foe in their final non-conference game of the season. The Monarchs left the CAA to join Conference USA this year.

The Mason men’s basketball team lost to Oklahoma at the Verizon Center on Sunday in the BB&T Classic, 81-66. Bryon Allen led the Patriots with 15 points, while Ryan Spangler, Cameron Clarke and Buddy Hield each posted a double-double for the Sooners in the game with a combined 33 rebounds and 47 total points.

USF defeats Mason men's basketball, 68-66

The Mason men’s basketball team lost to the University of South Florida at the Patriot Center on Wednesday night, 68-66. With the score tied at 66, Corey Allen Jr. hit a fade away jumper with two seconds on the clock to seal the victory for the Bulls. Sherrod Wright led all scorers with 22 points. Bryon Allen contributed 14 and Marko Gujanicic tallied 11.

Okoloji suspended for his conduct in USF game

Mason men's basketball head coach Paul Hewitt has suspended Anali Okoloji for "conduct unbecoming for a Mason student-athlete."

In Wednesday night's men's basketball game against the University of South Florida, Okoloji received a technical foul for stepping on a USF player.

"Anali's actions in Wednesday's game were inexcusable and not what we expect from a George Mason student-athlete," Hewitt said.
