Freshman tennis player faces unique adjustments

The transition for any student-athlete attending college for the first time is filled with a myriad of challenges ranging from life spent away from family to night classes.
 
For Mason women’s tennis player, Sofia Santa Maria, putting on a tennis jersey has been second nature for nearly her entire life.

While other teams at Mason have and are continuing to transition over to the ultra competitive Atlantic 10, men’s volleyball remains in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) in 2014.

 

Mason makes basketball sustainable

Striving to go green, the Office of Sustainability at Mason is raising awareness for green efforts on campus at a venue where trash seems to overflow: basketball games.

This Saturday’s basketball game against George Washington University will  host  an event called the Game Day Challenge.  It’s a competition between different universities to see who can properly recycle and compost the most during a single sporting event.

Letter from the Editor: Spring Break

Connect2Mason will be taking a little break for the next week because of the spring vacation. However, our Sports Editor Pat Carroll will be updating a LIVE blog on the CAA Tournament starting on Saturday, March 9. He will be writing game analysis, providing behind the scenes coverage and posting photos to the blog. We hope you will participate in the blog by writing any comments or questions you have. 

ESPN to hold recruitment event at Mason

The global sports television network, ESPN will be holding a recruiting event at George Mason University on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 1:30 p.m to 2:30 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Room C.

The event, sponsored by University Career Services, focuses on ESPN jobs dealing with statistics, analytics and information within the ESPN Stats & Info Group.

Hancock to transfer to Louisville

Men's basketball key player Luke Hancock says he intends to transfer to Louisville, according to a representative from Mason Athletics.

Patriots take an 8 seed in NCAA Tournament

George Mason University’s Patriots have received an 8 seed in the East region of the NCAA Tournament. The Patriots will go on to play the Wildcats of Villanova on Friday.

This year the NCAA Tournament will be slightly different expanding to include 68 teams instead of the previous 64 teams.  The additional four teams will be required to participate in a new first round known as “The First Four."
