OPINION: Why Allen is the better choice for United States Senate

As George Allen recently said in his debate against Tim Kaine, “will we continue to decline, or ascend again?” These are words which frequently resonate in the heads of concerned Americans. The national debt has been rising at a historic rate and unemployment has been high for the last few years. Speaking as a college student, I feel that it is important to look at the state of our economy as we will soon be searching through the job market.

Fimian vs. Connolly race called

Mason Votes is calling Virginia’s 11th congressional district race for Gerry Connolly (D). The Virginia Board of Elections’ unofficial results say that with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Connolly received 111,695 votes, or 49.22 percent, while Keith Fimian (R) had 110,727 votes, or 48.79 percent.

UPDATE: Board of Visitors convenes for first meeting of the semester

The George Mason University Board of Visitors approved several measures and welcomed five new members to its ranks at its meeting Wednesday.

“Things went very smoothly,” said Peter Pober, the chair of Mason’s Faculty Senate. “The meeting was very productive.”

The Board approved the formation of the Office of Global Strategy, which will act as a liaison between Mason and various international institutions, Pober said.
