Connect2Mason is looking to fill positions for the spring. We're looking for motivated, creative and funny folks to fill roles for paid, academic credit and volunteer-based experience.

What those roles are

Editor, Admin & Academia - C2M Editors work closely with reporters to manage and produce breaking news and daily content for particular coverage areas. The Admin & Academia section covers Mason news at the university level, from Board of Visitors decisions to faculty and staff senate notes to the latest from the university's departments.

Editors must be available to devote a weekly total of 15 hours to the position, with 10 hours being in-house weekday office hours. They are additionally responsible for managing breaking news coverage pertaining to their section. 

Applicants should be comfortable with AP style, able to write strong headlines and willing to lead teammembers in producing content under pressure and on deadline.  The more Internet savvy, the better. This position is paid.

 

Editor, Events & Entertainment - C2M Editors work closely with reporters to manage and produce breaking news and daily content for particular coverage areas. The Events & Entertainment section covers a range of lifestyle news and coverage you'd see in a paper's Style section. It also is the section responsible for much of the site's funny content, and additionally, its soon-to-launch blog network. 

Editors must be available to devote a weekly total of 15 hours to the position, with 10 hours being in-house weekday office hours. The Events & Entertainment editor will also work closely with the executive editor on C2M community engagement. 

Applicants should be comfortable with AP style, able to write strong headlines and willing to lead teammembers in producing content under pressure and on deadline.  The more Internet savvy, the better. This position is for academic credit, or volunteer experience. Compensation may be arranged for exceptional applicant. 

 

Newsroom Reporter (3) - C2M Newsoom Reporters will work closely with section editors to file breaking news and daily updates connected to the site's three main news areas: Student Life & Digest, Admin & Academia, and Off-campus & Community.

Interns must be available to spend a weekly total of 10 hours in the newsroom, during our regular business hours (approximately 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and will receive training in writing briefs, as well as shooting and editing video. 

Applicants should be comfortable with AP style and able to work under pressure and on deadline. This position is designed for academic credit.

 

Weekly Contributor (5) - C2M Weekly Contributors will work closely with section editors to file news stories connected to the site's five coverage areas: Student Life & Digest, Admin & Academia, Off-campus & Community, Sports & Recreation, and Events & Entertainment.

Weekly Contributors must be available to file a story a week. Each contributor will be assigned to a section, and stories will be arranged through meetings and e-mail correspondence with the section editor. Students may receive training in writing briefs, as well as shooting and editing video. 

Applicants should be comfortable with AP style and able to work under pressure and on deadline. This position is designed for volunteer experience. 

 

Videographer (2) - C2M Videographers will work closely with section editors to file stories connected to five coverage areas: Student Life & Digest, Admin & Academia, Off-campus & Community, Sports & Recreation, and Events & Entertainment.

Videographers must be available to file a story a week. Each videographer will be assigned to a section, and stories will be arranged through meetings and e-mail correspondence with the section editor. A quick turn-around time on content will be expected.

Applicants should be comfortable with video-editing software and able to work under pressure and on deadline. This position is designed for volunteer experience. 

 

Campus Culture Blogger (2) - Mason is a kooky school. Trends pop up out of no where, memes of jokes too. Campus Culture Bloggers are responsible for covering the offbeat and lighter side of "news" at Mason, how it affects and doesn't affect the university (think Jeanne Moos' offbeat content at CNN, The Onion, or if you remember it, the oh-so-funny Mason Squire).  

Bloggers must be available to devote a weekly total of 5 hours to the position, with half  being in-house weekday office hours. Bi-weekly contribution may also be arranged on an individual basis.

Applicants should be relatively comfortable with AP style, able to write strong headlines, funny and curious. The more Internet savvy, the better. This position is designed for volunteer experience, as well as a funny hobby for your free time. 

 

Contributing Photographer (3) - C2M Videographers will work closely with section editors to shoot photos for the site's five coverage areas: Student Life & Digest, Admin & Academia, Off-campus & Community, Sports & Recreation, and Events & Entertainment.

Contributing Photographers will be assigned to a section, and shoots will be arranged through meetings and e-mail correspondence with the section editor. 

Applicants should be comfortable with digital cameras and photo-editing software, and able to work under pressure and on deadline. A flexible schedule is valued. This position is designed for volunteer experience. 

 

Graphic Designer (2) - C2M Graphic Designers will work closely with the executive editor and section editors to illustrate content connected to the site's five coverage areas. They'll also work on general site design, branding and promotional content-- creating a wide range of work for any portfolio. 

Graphic Designers must be available to devote a weekly total of 5 hours to the position, with half being in-house weekday office hours. Bi-weekly contribution may also be arranged on an individual basis.

Applicants should be comfortable with Photoshop and other Adobe products, as well as willing to take initiative to try new tools in online graphics. The more Internet savvy, the better. This position is designed for volunteer experience. Under additional conditions, academic credit may be arranged for an exceptional applicant.
