Top five holiday dates to cap the semester

As finals wind down and the holidays approach, it’s the perfect time to organize a holiday date to awe that special someone. Take a look at these top five holiday date ideas here in the D.C. area that are affordable, but still might get you that kiss under the mistletoe.

5. Getting Cozy

Don’t want to spend a lot of money, but still need a romantic evening? Stay in and make some holiday themed treats like cookies or eggnog and watch a classic holiday movie like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, or A Christmas Story. If you’re looking for something a bit more romantic, try a film like Love Actually or The Holiday. This is a fool proof date that is sure to be relaxing and enjoyable.

4. The Classic

Grab dinner at one of the Fairfax Corner restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen or something a little more expensive like Ruth Chris’s Steak House. Then, go see a holiday movie in the comfort of the warm movie theater. There are several holiday themed movies playing this month like Happy Feet Two and Arthur Christmas. If you and your date want something a bit more risqué, try Harold and Kumar’s 3D Christmas for some laughs and holiday cheer. Then, finish the night off with a refreshing seasonal treat: peppermint Pinkberry.  A movie with dessert is always the perfect date.

3. Lions and Tigers and Lights!? Oh my!

Take your date on a trip through the National Zoo as it is decorated for the annual “Zoo Lights” spectacular! “Zoo Lights” is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday and admission is FREE!  Just hop on the Orange Line to Metro Center where you then ride the Red Line to Woodley-Park Zoo ($2.75 one way after 7 p.m. and all day on weekends). You can also take a romantic train ride for $3 to experience the lights in all of their glory. Food and drinks are available at the zoo but if you are looking for something a bit more cozy and quiet, stop by Starbucks across the street to grab a Gingerbread Latte to go or stay in with a warm Peppermint Mocha.
