Tuesday, Jan. 31
BusinessFest

What it is: Delta Omicron Pi Business Fraternity is hosting this opportunity for students to shop their resumes around and get tips on the job hunting game.

Why it’s our pick: With 40 companies from various industries in attendance, students will have ample opportunity to learn what specific employers look for in a potential employee.

Where: Dewberry Hall, 1 – 5 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 1
International Cafe

What it is: The Office of International Programs and Services is hosting their third International Cafe event of the school year, featuring food, drinks, music, and games from such countries as Beligum, France, Brazil, and China.

Why it’s our pick: This International Cafe will include a Belgian chocolate tasting, which should be enough to make anyone rush to attend, but other activities such as Chinese lantern painting, foosball, and the wide selection of teas make this a standout pick as well.

Where: SUB I Patriot's Lounge, 12 – 2 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 3
Chucho Valdez and the Afro-Cuban Messengers

What it is: Multiple Grammy award-winning jazz pianist Chucho Valdez and his band, the Afro-Cuban Messengers, will be appearing at the Center for the Arts this Friday.

Why it’s our pick: Valdez has won 5 Grammys and 3 Latin Grammys and has been called the "dean of Latin jazz" by the New York Times.  This should be a fantastic perfromance from a talented group of musicians.  Limited student tickets available.

Where: Center for the Arts Concert Hall, 8 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 4
St. Petersburg State Orchestra performance

What it is: Direct from Russia, the Tchaikowski St. Petersburg State Orchestra , accompanied by award winning pianist Alexandre Pirojenko, will be performing a set of classics and more modern orechestral pieces at the Concert Hall.

Why it’s our pick: This ensemble is sure to delight fans of classical and orchestral music or anyone who wants to, for whatever reason, get away from the Homecoming hoopla.

Where: Center for the Arts Concert Hall, 8 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 5
Rise Against

What it is: Punk band Rise Against will be bringing down the Patriot Center this Sunday.

Why it’s our pick: What better way to keep the homecoming festivities going into next week than with a rocking performance from a rocking band?

Where: Patriot Center, doors open at 5:30 p.m.
