Provost search reignites debate over faculty handbook

Citing concerns over their role in the provost search process, Mason’s Faculty Senate passed a resolution reaffirming a provision of the faculty handbook concerning the selection process for key administrative positions.

In a 20-4 vote on Oct. 9 2013, the Faculty Senate reaffirmed part of the faculty handbook that says, “The search and selection process must include opportunities for the General Faculty to meet with candidates who are finalists for the presidency.”

Mason offers counseling services in wake of Navy Yard shooting

In response to the shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington DC that left 12 dead and many more injured, George Mason University President Ángel Cabrera sent out an email to students offering access to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Committee appointed to search for new provost

On Sept. 5, President Ángel Cabrera announced a new search committee to find George Mason University's next provost. Dr. Peter Stearns, who has served as Mason's provost since 2000, announced that he would retire in June 2014.

The public event was held in the Patriot Center, where the audience heard from members of the board of visitors, state officials, student leaders, and Cabrera. On April 19, President Ángel Cabrera will hold an online discussion with students through an "Ask-Me-Anything" session on George Mason University's sub-reddit. 

Students can ask any questions from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The sub-reddit group has hosted previous AMA's with Fairfax County Supervisor John Cook and Josh Cantor, director of transportation and parking services for the university.
