Margaret Randell reveals different side of Che Guevara to Mason students

Margaret Randell, author of the book “Che on My Mind,” gave insight to students about her poetry and novels.

On Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, University Life, the Philosophy Department and the Women and Genders Studies Program allowed the Global Affairs Department and its students to experience a treat from a worldly, feminist writer and poet.  

Global affairs students, teachers and guests gathered to hear Randell talk about one of her favorite people, Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

University offices promote cultural curiosity among all students

Mason ranks in the top 50 most diverse schools in the nation in U.S. News and World Report's ratings. Mason received a 0.63 diversity score, in which closer to 1.0 means more diverse based on campus ethnic diversity, for 2012-2013. The diversity is evident by just walking around campus at peak hours; students and faculty of ethnic, socioeconomic, gender, sexuality and ideological differences are abundant.

Mason retains interim vice president as permanent head of University Life

After a semester-long search and review process, George Mason University has decided to keep interim Vice President Rose Pascarell as the permanent head of University Life.

University Life is a division of the Mason administration that creates and manages programs that are meant to broaden the college experience outside of the classroom. Pascarell is replacing Sandy Scherrens, who had held the position for eight years.

University Life to be more integrated with academic affairs

After a decision by George Mason University President Ángel Cabrera, University Life will now report to the provost of the university, instead of the president’s office.

Intramurals, Rec Sports department to transition to University Life

George Mason University’s Intramural and Recreational Sports programs are currently under the school’s Athletics Department; however it will be making the move to the University Life department in the near future. Although the exact date for the transition is uncertain, it will happen by July 1.

The Intramural and Recreational Sports Assistant Director, Paul Bazzano, was unsure of where the idea of the move originally came from, but was confident stating that, “The move has been in the works for a while.”

Merten to impart 'last lecture' wisdom

President Alan Merten will address students and other members of the Mason community Thursday with a talk on what wisdom he would choose to share if it were his hypothetical “last chance.”

Student Government candidates hold forum with Mason Police, University Life

A George Mason University Police Department and University Life forum was held on Tuesday and invited students to ask representatives whatever questions they wished. The forum, which was hosted by  Student Body Presidential candidate Ally Bowers and Vice Presidential candidate Jacky Yoo, included speakers such as Sgt. Calvin Chandler, officer Michael Guston and Associate Dean of University Life Todd Rose.

SUB I addition opens, offers 'enrollment central' for students

Beginning in the fall semester, current students will find Student Union Building I to be a one-stop shop for student services and some university life departments.

The addition to the back of the building, on the side near the student apartments, has been completed and is ready for use. A great deal of the space is being used by student services, including the registrar, financial aid, and part of the admissions office.
