City of Richmond bids farewell to 24-year March tradition in CAA tournament

The city of Richmond has been the heart of the Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament for 24 years. However, next year when March rolls around, the Richmond Coliseum, that hosts the event, will be missing its weekend attraction as the tournament moves north to Baltimore.

Northeastern storms back from 24-point deficit to oust Mason in CAA semifinals

Northeastern University's Jonathan Lee stood at the top of the arc, dribbling down the remaining seconds of the first CAA semifinal on Sunday against George Mason University. The crowd at the Richmond Coliseum rose to their feet, a smaller attendance than seen in year's past but rowdy nonetheless.

Lee found an opening on the right side and drove to the rim for an uncontested layup with 3.0 seconds left in regulation, leading to a 69-67 victory over the Patriots.

Mason holds off Drexel's late rally to advance in the CAA Tournament

The George Mason men's basketball team managed to keep Damion Lee and the Drexel Dragons (13-18) in check to advance to the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament with a 60-54 win at the Richmond Coliseum.

Junior guard Sherrod Wright led the way for the Patriots (18-13), scoring 18 of his 23 points in the second half and tallying 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Bryon Allen turned in 16 points and six steals and Vertrail Vaughns added 10 points in the winning effort.

2013 CAA men's basketball tournament preview

The 2013 CAA men’s basketball tournament will have an unfamiliar feel compared to tournaments of years past. The field of seven teams is the least amount of teams in the tournament since 2001.

With Virginia Commonwealth opting to relocated to the Atlantic 10 conference and Old Dominion and Georgia State on the verge of leaving, the CAA tournament may have lost some of its luster from previous years when schools were fighting for at-large NCAA bids.

For twenty-two years, Richmond, Va. and the Richmond Coliseum have been home to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament held each year in early March. But, with Virginia Commonwealth leaving the conference for the Atlantic 10, the future of the tournament in Virginia's capital is up in the air.

Women's hoops season comes to an end with loss to JMU

Plagued by turnovers all night, George Mason lost in the quarterfinals to second-seeded James Madison, 64-54, at the CAA Championships in Upper Marlboro, Md.  Amber Easter, who finished with 11 points in the game, committed a team high seven turnovers.

Women’s hoops ends six-year winless drought in CAA Tournament

Riding a late rally in the second half, the George Mason Patriots pulled away from Northeastern for their first win in the CAA Women’s Basketball Championships since 2006 by a final count of 70-60 Thursday night. The win helps prove that this program is on the upswing, led by head coach Jeri Porter and her recruiting classes, anchored by junior Amber Easter.

“It feels good to get a win, but we know we have to get right back at it tomorrow.  There is no sitting around,” assistant coach Greg Pulliam said.

Mason eliminated in the 'VCU Coliseum' yet again [OPINION]

In a Coliseum full of VCU fans, the Mason chants essentially went unheard. Sure, more Mason supporters could have come down. Sure, maybe the ones that were there could have been louder. But would it have made a difference?

When playing in the “VCU Coliseum,” Mason Nation has little hope of being heard.
