OPINION: The lure and danger of Molly (MDMA)

When educating young people on the dangers of hard drugs, it is counterproductive to withhold information.

The Fourth Estate article on the drug MDMA, also known as “molly,” only lectures young adults on the dangers of the drug, and makes no effort to delve into why people use it or why its use is becoming so prevalent.

Here’s what MDMA does: users experience an increase in the release of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.

Alcohol incidents more than double on campus

The 2013 Annual Security Report, released in September, shows a drastic increase in alcohol related arrests and referrals on Mason’s Fairfax campus between 2011 and 2012. While the number of alcohol related arrests decreased from 111 arrests in 2010 to 99 in 2011, the number rose sharply to 247 in 2012, representing a 62 percent increase.
