Mason-UMBC men's basketball preview

The University of Maryland-Baltimore Retrievers have had a tough go in their first seven games of the season, starting at 2-5. With one of the worst RPI in all of Division-I men’s basketball, UMBC will be overmatched by George Mason, the second-highest ranked RPI team they will face this year. The Retrievers take on the Patriots at the Patriot Center tonight at 7 p.m. However, here are some of the players to pay attention to from the Retrievers.

Mason-URI men's basketball preview

The University of Rhode Island has had a tough start to the season. Under new head coach Dan Hurley, the Rams have managed to survive (barely) a stretch of games against major conference competition, including No. 3 Ohio State. However, they were able to get into the win column Sunday with a double overtime thriller against Auburn (can anything go right for the Tigers right now?).

With a win under their belt, the Rams no longer have the winless monkey on their proverbial backs. However, they would like to continue their winning streak against a quality opponent in Mason.

Mason men's swimming and diving finish second overall, women take fourth in Patriot Invitational

With George Mason University hosting the Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center on the Fairfax campus, the swimming and diving team intended to defend their pool and showcase a respectable performance.

2012-2013 Mason women's basketball preview

The Mason women’s basketball season has officially started with a fall to the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, 62-58 on Nov. 9. The first home opener is in sight and it is due time to preview the Lady Patriots’ season.

For twenty-two years, Richmond, Va. and the Richmond Coliseum have been home to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament held each year in early March. But, with Virginia Commonwealth leaving the conference for the Atlantic 10, the future of the tournament in Virginia's capital is up in the air.

2012-2013 Mason men's basketball preview

It's hard to gauge how well a team will perform throughout a full season based on one exhibition game against a team that plays in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Although the experienced Bowie State Bulldogs gave the Patriots all they could muster Thursday night in a close 76-72 contest, only so much can truly be taken away from the outcome and the contents of the exhibition.

Shorthanded Patriots survive Bowie State in 76-72 exhibition win

In their first game against outside competition, the George Mason Patriots were able to squeak past the Bowie State Bulldogs, 76-72 in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Patriot Center.

Without preseason All-CAA selection Sherrod Wright (athletic department violation) and junior starting point guard Bryon Allen (shoulder/neck injury), Mason had to make up for their absence with sophomore guard Corey Edwards and Seton Hall transfer Anali Okoloji filling in.

[COLUMN] Robert Griffin III has mine and the District's approval

Washington, D.C. has been through a whirlwind of emotion over the past week. Postseason baseball returned to the nation's capital for the first time since the FDR administration. The Nationals won an exhilarating Game 4 in walk-off fashion on Jayson Werth’s home run, all before a heart-breaking collapse in the ninth inning of Game 5, roughly 24 hours later, putting an end to the team's promising season.
