Women's soccer reflects on first season in A-10

The Mason women’s soccer team was relaxed but focused as they started practice the day before leaving for Philadelphia for their last two games of the regular season.

The team was getting ready to take on Saint Joseph’s University and La Salle University, two Atlantic 10 opponents. While the team entered the weekend having won four of their last five games, the season had not come without its share of struggles.

Mason defeats GW 1-0 on Senior Night

Mason women’s soccer team defeated the George Washington Colonials Friday night 1-0 at George Mason Stadium.

Mason (7-8-1, 4-2 A-10) scored in the fourth minute off a corner kick from senior Jazmin Cardoso that found junior Liz Hodges for the header. It would be the only score Mason would need in their dominating defensive performance over the Colonials (5-5-4, 2-3-1 A-10).

The Patriots (6-8-1, 3-2 A-10) are coming off of a 2-1 overtime loss to Richmond and will look to bounce back in this matchup. In the final home game of the season, the team will honor seniors Lyndse Hokanson, Jazmin Cardoso, Casey Vornadore and Nicole Clark prior to kickoff. A Revolutionary Rivalry point is up for grabs and will be awarded to the winning team.

Mason women's soccer falls to Richmond 2-1

Mason women’s soccer fell to Richmond 2-1 in double-overtime on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.

Both teams managed just eight shots total in the first half, and played conservatively until the 40th minute. Richmond forward Shannon Colligan had a breakaway and took advantage of a mistake by the Patriot defense, which led to a one-on-one opportunity with Mason goalkeeper Lyndse Hokanson who made an incredible save.

Patriots drop third-straight in 3-0 loss to Delaware

The George Mason University women’s soccer team registered a third consecutive defeat, falling 3-0 to Delaware at the George Mason Stadium on Sunday.

Two goals from Chelsea Duffy in the 42nd and in the 87th minutes, and a goal by Alison Stark between them sunk an injury-struck Mason team.

Although Mason were first to come close to score in the first half when a corner taken by Amanda Stephenson deflected off a Delaware defender in the penalty box and struck the post, the Patriots rarely threatened Jess Figueroa’s goal in the first half.
