Mason Alert system undergoes changes

Following an evaulation, The Mason Alert system will now only send emergency information to subscribers. 

The system, which timeliness been criticized in the past, will no longer send updates about traffic, events or other breaking news subscriptions that users were previously able to opt in for such as CNN breaking news alerts. The system will now only send information that is immediately pertinent to the health and safety of subscribers. The change occurred after an evaluation by the Environmental Health and Safety Office found that the system required a lot of maintenance and was also at times confusing to users, said Dave Farris, director of emergency preparedness and response.
