Lady's Volleyball falls at home to American

Sophomore Lana Zonjic and the Lady Patriots fought hard Wednesday night, but ultimately fell short against American. They will conclude their non-conference schedule this weekend when they compete in the Thunder Invitational (Joey McDermott).

Returning home, the George Mason women’s volleyball team (3-6) faced off against the American Eagles (5-6) on Wednesday night; however they fell short of the victory, three sets to none.

The first set featured three lead changes and eight ties. The Patriots came out strong, beating American 15 to 11 in kills and outplaying them 3 to 7 in errors; however their success still proved short of taking the first set. The Eagles squeezed out the nail-bitter, 25 points to Mason’s 23.

Mason continued to push in the second set, starting off on a 5-1 run, but again fell short to AU, this time by a five point margin, 25-20.

The third set was all in favor of American. The Eagles put away 10 kills, while Mason was only able to account for 8. When it came to errors, AU dominated as well, only putting up one, while the Lady Patriots committed a daunting eight errors.

American took the match with a 25-13 victory in the third set to sweep George Mason at home.

Though it ended in a loss, the Lady Patriots still managed to put up some impressive individual statistics.

Sophomore Lana Zonjic and senior Noelle Fanella led Mason in kills with nine and seven respectively. Kelly McCarter also made an impressive impact putting up 10 digs for the team, while Kelsey Bohman tallied up 4 blocks.

The Patriots next match will be on the road in Marshall’s Thunder Invitational this weekend where they will take on the Thundering Herd of Marshall, as well as Central Michigan and East Carolina.
