Connect2Mason.com is currently accepting applications for a variety of positions for the Fall 2013 semester. Connect2Mason’s position in an ever-changing world of news and entertainment makes it the ideal place to work for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism or communication. By working at C2M, students will learn to work with others, will develop and fine-tune their written and verbal communication skills and will gain experience working in an exciting, deadline- and detail-oriented environment.

Sports & Recreation Editor

The Sports & Recreation Editor is directly responsible for all coverage involving sports, athletics and recreation activities at the university.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading Connect2Mason sports and recreation reporters in coverage and helping ensure they make deadline
     
  • Editing the work of writers and reporters, along with tutoring and mentoring the team on how to improve reporting practices
     
  • Writing and reporting stories, large and small, with heavy responsibility on breaking news related to sports
     
  • Monitoring social media and other online feeds for news related to the coverage area

The position may be arranged for pay, academic credit or volunteer experience, all at the discretion of the executive editor.

The Sports & Recreation Editor is expected to contribute at least 10 hours a week. 

Campus Engagement Editor

The Campus Engagement Editor is responsible for delivering Connect2Mason and Broadside's content to the Mason community. They will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy, finding new ways to reach out to readers both online and in print, and increase interaction between the Mason community and the student news outlets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an active social media presence, with special emphasis on increasing readership and interaction
     
  • Assisting and training staff on social media strategies
     
  • Developing strategies for increasing presence both on campus and in the community, through regular events and other activities
     
  • Gauge reader interaction through tracking social media and website metrics and conducting reader surveys
     
  • Work to increase number of weekly email subscribers

The Campus Engagement Editor is expected to contribute at least 10 hours a week.

The position is paid bi-weekly. Possibilities exist for volunteer experience or arranged academic credit. 

Video Editor

The Video Editor is directly responsible for all video and other multimedia on the site. With guidance of the editorial team, he or she oversees all aspects of video or multimedia choice and production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading assigned Connect2Mason videographers in video journalism and helping ensure they make deadline
     
  • Editing or assisting in the work of video staff, along with tutoring and mentoring the team on how to improve video journalism practice
     
  • Contributing video work for the site when needed, with heavy responsibility on producing content related to major stories
     
  • Monitoring social media and other online feeds for news related to Mason, and keeping up-to-date on best practices of video journalism

The position is paid bi-weekly. Possibilities exist for volunteer experience or arranged academic credit.

The Video Editor is expected to contribute at least 10 hours a week.
