Mason’s Office of Student Media special-edition magazine, “Etched in Stone: The Legacy of Alan Merten,” is set to be released by May 14.

The magazine highlights the tenure of President Alan Merten as he prepares for the transition to his new position with the university as President Emeritus, beginning in June. Angel Cabrera, sitting president at Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, will take over as Mason’s sixth president in July.

“In the past 16 years, George Mason University has come a long way,” said magazine Editor-in-Chief Monika Joshi. “A key player in the university's success has been its president, Alan Merten. As his presidency comes to an end this June, Merten is leaving an indelible mark.”

The university’s expansion across four campuses, the continued transition to a more residential student community, and the recognition received by Mason’s 2006 Final Four run, are among the accomplishments earned during Merten’s time at the helm of the university.

In preparation for the magazine’s release, “Etched in Stone” t-shirts are being sold in the Office of Student Media for $15. Students interested in buying a t-shirt can stop by the office in the HUB, or send an email to gmumertenlegacy@gmail.com

Once available students can pick up a copy of the magazine in the Office of Student Media or look for them in the Johnson Center during finals week.
