Paul Hewitt slated to be new coach for men's basketball

Former Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Paul Hewitt will be the new head coach of the George Mason University men's basketball team, according to Mason Athletics.

Hewitt, 47, has agreed in principle to fill the head coaching job vacated by Jim Larranaga, according to communications director Maureen Nasser. Because he isn't in town yet, he hasn't signed the papers, she said.

"He's our guy," said Nasser.

Hewitt coached the Yellow Jackets to the national championship game in 2004. The team has had 5 NCAA tournament appearances under his coaching.

There is a press conference scheduled for Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m. at the Mason Inn.
