Mason's Folklore Program hosts Spooky Story Swap
|In the spirit of Halloween, the Folklore Department and its student-run organization, the Folklore Roundtable, teamed up to host a Spooky Stories event on Wednesday night.
Students and faculty gathered in the JC and shared their strange experiences with one another, depicting stories about things from haunted libraries to possessed pianos. Storytelling has been an integral form of communication in every culture and the event helped highlight this fact as people from different backgrounds explained the histories behind some of their stories.
Mason Inn Task Force to make drastic changes to hotel’s business model
|Since its opening, the Mason Inn has lost roughly $11 million dollars. Jennifer Wagner Davis, Mason's senior vice president for administration and finance, estimates that the Mason Inn loses between $2 to $2.5 million annually. Davis said, in regards to the lost money, “we have taken it all out of the auxiliary enterprise reserves and we are now below our level of reserves that we need to run the institution appropriately.”

|As the number one seed of the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference, the Mason club ice hockey team has a lot to be proud of. One source of pride for the team and its coaches is their involvement with the Children’s National Medical Center.
On Oct. 25, the Mason club ice hockey team visited the Children’s National Medical Center’s main hospital in Washington D.C. for a tour of the facilities and the opportunity to meet and spend time with patients.

Libertarian candidate for governor visits Mason
|The Virginia Governor’s race is heating up between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli. In order to build awareness about the other options in the election, third party candidate Robert Sarvis visited Mason, where he visited the Honors 131 class of Mason’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Professor Steven Pearlstein and answered questions from students and guests.
[PREVIEW] NWCA All-Star Classic
|The Greater Washington Business Network and George Mason University will host the NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:15 p.m. at the Patriot Center.
The All Star Classic features the top Division I wrestlers in the nation competing in a dual-meet format. Nine top-ranked wrestlers, including seven defending NCAA champions, are committed to compete at the event.
Mason sophomore Sahid Kargbo will wrestle in an exhibition. Kargbo was a member of the USA Junior World team this past summer and competed in the Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
New women's basketball coach brings different mindset
|Despite transitioning with a new coach into a new conference, the Mason women’s basketball team has high expectations for their season.
“Our ultimate goal is an A-10 championship, but we need to take small victories and baby steps first before we get to that point,” Coach Nyla Milleson said.
On April 16, 2013, Milleson was announced as the eighth head coach in Mason women’s basketball history. In 13 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Milleson brings a career 70.2 winning percentage to Mason. Milleson is entering her 29th year coaching.
L.A. Theatreworks brings The Graduate to Mason with a radio-style twist
|L.A. Theatre Works presents “The Graduate” which reveals the other, darkly comedic side of college graduation at the Center for the Arts.
“The Graduate” was originally a novel that was adapted into the famous Dustin Hoffman movie in 1967. The novel was also adapted for the stage by Terry Johnson in the West End before coming to Broadway in 2002.
L.A. Theatre Works adapts the stage version of “The Graduate" into a “unique hybrid radio theater-style,” according to their recent press release.
