Paul Hewitt backs current NCAA system for student-athletes

Imagine receiving the brunt end of a fiery debate that rocks the foundation of American higher education to its core and you are just months removed from high school and had no prior hand in the debate.

Add in the fact that rules were implemented for your current organization by an outside organization that is preventing you from turning professional, forcing you to join said current organization, and you have thousands of men who are labeled as coddled and not deserving of fame.

Men's basketball's frustrating season continues with second loss to George Washington

With three seconds remaining in the first half of Sunday’s Atlantic 10 matchup between Mason and George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center, head coach Paul Hewitt called a timeout to set up a possible game tying play just minutes after blowing a six-point lead.

Marko Gujanicic inbounded the ball to Byron Allen who raced up the court and found a wide-open Patrick Holloway already cocked in-stance, ready to hit a long range jumper.

Instead, the ball went directly through the sophomore’s hands and out of bounds to end the first half.

Mason makes basketball sustainable

Striving to go green, the Office of Sustainability at Mason is raising awareness for green efforts on campus at a venue where trash seems to overflow: basketball games.

This Saturday’s basketball game against George Washington University will  host  an event called the Game Day Challenge.  It’s a competition between different universities to see who can properly recycle and compost the most during a single sporting event.

Student breathes green and gold and inspires Mason Nation

Sometimes the most recognizable person at a basketball game is not a player or a coach but rather a fan in the crowd. This person isn’t just any fan; he or she is at every game. They cheer on the team whether they’re winning or losing, and they always sit in the same seat.

The New York Knicks have Spike Lee. The Los Angeles Lakers have Jack Nicholson.

And the George Mason University Patriots have Trevor Scambos.

OPINION: Differences between college basketball and the NBA are game changers

@gmuhoops said it best on Twitter: “Richmond beat VCU, UVA beat NC State. George Mason beat Richmond and UVA, oh college hoops”.

Young Wizards bond, build for the future at Mason training camp

After finishing the 2011-2012 regular season with a dismal 20-46 record, Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis needed to make some changes. The changes that had to be made were a priority for a team that had become a laughingstock in the National Basketball Association over the past few seasons. His main focus shifted to building a contender through the draft and by developing young, talented and character players.
