Cardboard Hack-a-thon engages student creativity

On Feb. 28, Mason’s Center for Social Entrepreneurship collaborated with AE Green from Auxiliary Enterprises  to host a Cardboard Hack-a-thon in the Engineering building.

Part of a series of similar events titled Hack Mason, the hack-a-thon provided visitors a unique opportunity to create various inventions out of cardboard that was collected around campus, as shown in the video below.

Board of Visitors approves new degree programs

In order to meet the demands of the job market, Mason has proposed four new academic programs. Starting fall 2014, Mason will provide a Bachelor of Science in cyber security engineering.

A Ph.D. in bioengineering and Masters of Science in data analytics will be available to graduate students.

The proposals for the new programs were approved by the Board of Visitors on Oct. 2. According to Provost Peter Stearns, the next step is approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, which may take time.

Perhaps the most common and most bothersome question every student is asked, starting in the latter years of high school and ending—I hope—after college graduation, is in regard to one’s intended area of academic pursuit.

Dewberry donates $1 million to engineering school

The Dean of the Volgenau School of Engineering announced last week a $1 million gift for the university’s growing civil engineering department.
