[PREVIEW] Nothing will come easy for Mason as pesky Panthers aim to spoil homecoming

Though the George Mason men's basketball team has seen its share of highs and lows during this season, the annual homecoming game tends to work in the Patriots' favor. The packed Patriot Center gives the home team an essential advantage, making the venue one of the most home-friendly atmospheres in the Colonial Athletic Association.

With 9.5 seconds left on the clock and Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” roaring from the George Mason University Green Machine, Mason’s  women’s basketball team (7-14, 2-8) trailed the William & Mary Tribe (5-17, 3-8) 56-55.

After a timeout by Mason coach Jeri Porter, the ball was inbounded to senior guard Rahneeka Saunders. From the corner, Saunders made a jumper that gave the Patriots a 1-point lead with just three seconds left on the clock. A missed 3-pointer at the buzzer by William & Mary guard Janine Aldridge secured the victory for the Patriots.

Delaware hands Mason 79-72 home loss

Despite four of its players scoring in double figures, the George Mason University men's basketball team was unable to hold off the University of Delaware, falling 79-72 Saturday afternoon at the Patriot Center. 

Junior guard Devon Saddler had a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Hens, increasing his streak of consecutive games scoring in double figures to 30. 

Mason men's volleyball opens EIVA play with a 3-1 win against nemesis Princeton

 

The George Mason University Patriots men's volleyball team opened up their Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association season with a 3–1 win against the Princeton Tigers at home. The Patriots came out fighting in the first half, winning the first set 25-21, and they wouldn't look back from there.

Entering the season, Delaware was slated to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association. However, the Blue Hens opened the season against a tough stretch of non-conference opponents that included, Pittsburgh, Temple, Villanova and Duke. In their first 10 games of the season, Delaware managed to win only three games. Since then, the Blue Hens have made a respectable run to place them in the hunt at fifth in the CAA. They travel to Fairfax Saturday Feb. 9 to face the Patriots at 2 p.m.

The George Mason University men's basketball team maintained their edge on the road against Old Dominion University Monday night, sweeping the Monarchs in the season series with a 85-74 win.
