No GMU this year for the Redskins

The Redskins' interest in moving their training camp to the George Mason campus has been well documented over the past few weeks, but the deal has been terminated for now according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

Redskins' General Manager Bruce Allen and Mason's Athletic Director Tom O'Connor were unable to solve all of the issues necessary to bring the camp to the Fairfax campus. O'Connor was unable to promise that all of the facilities would be ready in time to host the camp, Jones said.

The Skins are still hoping to move away from Redskins Park in Ashburn this year. Although they are not coming this August, it is still possible they will come to Mason in the future.

"We recently had the opportunity to explore George Mason University as a possible site for training camp," Allen said in a team-issued statement. "We are excited about the first-class facilities at the university and will continue to work with their administration for a future partnership. Once a decision is made, we will make an announcement."

O'Connor has big plans for renovating the on-campus athletic facilities, which may open the door for events such as this as well as enhance the experience of the student-athletes.
