Students who park in the Rappahannock Neighborhood may need to move their car before the start of spring break.

Construction on George Mason University's new Shenandoah Residence Hall is expected to begin over spring break, forcing many students to relocate their cars from the northern part of Lot R by 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8.

The removal zone, which has already been marked, is expected to cover over 230 parking spaces. While parking in Lot R will be restricted, Parking Services claims there are enough spaces to support all Lot R reserved parking permit owners. However, the lot will be at maximum capacity.

Josh Cantor, director of parking and transportation, said in a Feb. 21 interview that this construction has been planned for a long time and that the affected students knew about the impending change when they purchased their parking pass.

The expected date of completion is yet to be determined. Much of the lot will be closed for the duration of this semester, the summer and potentially the fall semester of 2013.
