  1. NPHC Step Expo
    When: Friday, Aug. 31, 7pm
    Where: Dewberry Hall

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at George Mason University will hold its annual Step Expo in Dewberry Hall. The NPHC is a collaboration of nine historically African American lead fraternities and sororities colloquially called The Divine Nine. The Step Expo showcases talent from all nine organizations, organizations that date back to roots on the continent of Africa. The event is free to Mason students and the public.

  2. College Humor LIVE
    When: Saturday, Sept. 1 at 8pm
    Where: Center for the Arts
    The popular online comedy site College Humor is breaking free from the internet. Based in New York City, College Humor posts daily original comedy videos and editorials. The team from College Humor will be at the Center for the Arts performing a mix of stand-up comedy and sketch comedy. Up to two tickets can be picked up per student ID at the Office of Student Involvement.
     
  3. Virgin Free Fest 
    When: Friday, Aug 31 (event Saturday, Oct. 6)
    Where: Merriweather Post Pavilion
    Tickets for the annual Virgin Free Fest go on sale this Friday at noon EST. A free music festival, Virgin Free Fest is an all day outdoor music festival hosted at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. The festival began three years ago as a means of “lightening things up in a rough economy” and bringing awareness to youth homelessness.

    Tickets can be reserved for free at a first come first served basis. This year’s lineup includes Jack White of the White Stripes and electronic music artist Skrillex.

  4. Cherry Tree Band Free Concert
    When: Friday, Aug. 31
    Where: Epicure Café
    Epicure Café, located off of Lee Highway, hosts its weekly Friday music show. Epicure Café serves eclectic food, drink and offers outdoor hookah. It serves as a local music and arts venue for the Fairfax area. This week features local rock band Cherry Tree. The all male rock group is promoting their self-titled debut album, now available on iTunes. Check out the free concert while enjoying some delicious food this weekend.

  5. Owl City
    When: Monday, Sept.10
    Where: 9:30 Club, Washington D.C.
    Owl City’s front man Adam Young will be performing next month at the 9:30 Club. Collaborating with Carly Rae Jepsen on the song “Good Time,” Owl City has been able to remain on the pop music charts following their 2009 hit “Fireflies.”
