Heavy rain and flooding temporarily closed portions of George Mason University's main roadway Patriots Circle on Thursday afternoon, as well as other roads nearby campus.

A Mason Alert was sent to the Mason community shortly after 2 p.m.  with information about the Patriots Circle and other road closures.

The on-campus closures lasted approximately an hour and half. Shuttle service for campus and the surrounding area was also temporarily suspended.

Closures included:

  • Circle between Mason Pond Drive and Aquia Creek Lane
  • Patriots Circle between Nottoway River Lane and Mason Pond Drive
  • Roberts Road (off-campus road leading to the campus entrance at Shennandoah Lane)

On-campus roads reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Shuttle service was also restored at that time.

Mason Parking has asked students, faculty and staff to respect delays as the shuttle drivers attempt to return the service to its regular schedule.
