WGMU Rocks the Bistro Wednesday Night

Come get your fix of local music this Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the Johnson Center Bistro. WGMU, Mason’s internet-radio station, will be hosting a free concert headlined by Fairfax Station-based rock band Ringleader along with bands Numa, The Frustrations, Safety Word Orange, No Compromise, and others.

The show will start at 6 p.m. at the Johnson Center Bistro. Read on to learn more about the featured bands.

Ringleader is a self-described “combination of the indie rock sound of PJ Harvey and Liz Phair with the pop sensibilities of No Doubt and Garbage,” according to their homepage.

The Frustrations are a band born not out of frustration, but out of the desire to rock your block off,” is how the DC-based ska and alternative rock quintet describes itself. The unsigned band has a long, eclectic list of influences from the Buzzcocks to the Isley Brothers.

Numa is a Vienna, VA-based alternative rock quartet that have been described as combining “classic hard rock with a melodic touch, making their sound fresh and familiar at the same time,” according to Culpeper Star Exponent Features Editor Jeff Say.

No Compromise is an alternative rock trio from Silver Spring, MD. They describe themselves as “THE Alt-Rock trio from the Washington/Baltimore/Northern Virginia area,” according to their home page. Their influences include “Incubus, Foo Fighters, AFI, Thrice, Stevie Ray, Alice in Chains.”

Safety Word Orange is a Richmond-based post-grunge quartet.
