Women's hoops falls in season finale to JMU

George Mason (14-15, 8-10) came out strong, but couldn’t match the intensity of rival James Madison as they fell 66-54 in the Patriot Center Wednesday night.  The Dukes fielded four players in double-digit scoring in route to their seventh straight 20-win season under the direction of head coach Kenny Brooks.

Will the real Mason Nation please stand up? [OPINION]

With 10 seconds left on the clock, the Rams were shooting free throws to add to their lead. The student section always stands during games, but at this point, they were urging the rest of Mason Nation (ironically, the fans who had to pay to be there) to join them.

Moton goes for 31 as women's hoops downs Georgia State in overtime

When the women’s basketball team needed an answer, they knew right where to look.

As the clock winded down in overtime, Taleia Moton sank two free throws to give George Mason a 70-68 win at the Patriot Center Sunday afternoon over Georgia State.  Moton ended the game with 31 points. The win comes on the 38th anniversary of Mason’s first ever win as a women’s basketball program and brings head coach Jeri Porter to within three wins of the 200 benchmark.

The Patriots sneak by Lamar on Senior Night

“The emotions have been running high for me all day,” said Pearson after the game. “You know this is big time, I’ve been here a long time, I feel like I’ve been through a lot with this team.”

Sherrod Wright beats VCU at the buzzer

There are 3.8 seconds left on the clock, the Patriots trailing by two. Ryan Pearson has the ball at the baseline looking for Bryon Allen, but he gets cut off. About to fall over the line, Pearson tosses with the ball to the only open target – Sherrod Wright.

Wright takes three dribbles. He pulls up for the jumper with a hand right in his face.

Swish. 62-61.

“I made the shot of my dreams,” Wright said.
