Men's Soccer falls to UNC Wilmington in double OT

The George Mason Men's Soccer team fought through a grueling game against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks on Saturday night, ultimately falling 2-1 in overtime.

The first goal of the game was scored by UNC Wilmington's Etienne Boulanger in the 53rd minute of the second half. The Patriots came back to tie the match when senior Parker Walton netted a goal in the 90th minute to force overtime. Walton scored the goal, his second of the season, with only 33 seconds left to play from a throw-in assist by Hugh Roberts. 

Overtime consisted of four shots from Mason, two of which came from Ryan Gracia. It was not until the second overtime that the third goal of the game was produced. In the 102nd minute, UNC Wilmington's Tyler Clare scored the game-winning goal to defeat Mason 2-1.

Mason was in fourth place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings prior to Saturday's game, but needed a win against the Seahawks to progress to the postseason CAA Tournament.With the defeat, the Patriots saw their regular season come to a close and all hopes of competing in the tournament were lost.

It was Senior Night on Saturday at George Mason Stadium for nine seniors. The team said farewell to Fro Adu, Brent Brockman, Mike Foss, Victor Freeman, Anthony Han, Ernesto Marquez, Steven Wagoner, and Parker Walton. The senior class was part of a CAA championship squad and went to the NCAA Tournament in 2008.
