[PREVIEW] George Mason vs. Duquesne -- Women's Basketball

Mason women’s basketball takes on Duquesne at 7 p.m. tonight in the Game of the Week at the Patriot Center.

Duquesne at a glance  

This is the first meeting between these two teams as members of the Atlantic 10 conference. Mason leads the all-time series 2-1, with the Patriots taking the last decision, 62-55, on Dec. 11, 1999.

The Patriots (6-14, 0-7 A-10) are on a seven-game losing streak heading into this matchup, after falling to Virginia Commonwealth University on the road Saturday, 112-86.

The Dukes (14-6, 6-1 A-10) are on a five-game win streak and enter the contest coming off a 75-65 victory over VCU on the road last Wednesday.

The Dukes lone conference loss came at home on Jan. 4 against VCU, with the Rams defeating the Dukes, 71-68.

The Dukes have three players averaging double-digits led by Raegan Moore (15.6), Wumi Agunbiade (15.0) and April Robinson (11.8).

After scoring a season-high 26 points and team-high nine rebounds at Fordham on Jan. 8, and a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds against St. Louis on Jan. 11, Agunbiade was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as well as College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week. Agunbiade was also named A-10 Player of the Week on Dec. 9, after recording two back-to-back double-doubles against Providence and Saint Francis. Agunbiade is just one of two players in Duquesne history to score 1,500 points and 800 rebounds.

Senior Orsi Szecsi became the first person to record a triple-double in almost 19 years for the Dukes, after hitting 16 points, 12 rebounds and career-high 10 assists at Morehead State on Nov. 24.

The Dukes have four new faces on the team this year, and the freshmen Class of 2013 was named second-best among the 13 teams in the A-10. The team welcomed Kyasia Duling, Angela Heintz, Amadea Szamosi and Brianna Thomas to the roster this season.

The senior class of Agunbiade, Moore, Oditte Odisho and Szecsi currently have 82 victories, and need seven wins to become the winningest senior class in program history.

How Mason stacks up

Three Patriots are averaging double-digit points per game. Sophomore guard Taylor Brown leads the Patriots with 18.1 points per game, followed by senior forward Janaa Pickard (13.8) and Sandra Ngoie (12.8).

Brown is currently third in the conference and 85th in the nation in points per game. Brown is also third in the conference in free throw percentage (85.5%) and total points (58). Brown is among the top 10 in assists per game (5/4.6) and assist/turnover ratio (10/1.39).

Pickard is currently second in the A-10 in rebounds. Pickard holds the top spot in the conference and 35th in the nation in double-doubles with nine, and also leads the A-10 in blocked shots per game (1.89).
