A female Chick-fil-A employee was punched in the face and robbed of her cellphone Tuesday on the Fairfax campus near Harris Theatre. Mason police say the suspect has not been apprehended.

Major George Ginovsky of the Mason Police Department said the assault occurred around 10:10 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 17, when the employee was approached while walking near Harris Theatre carrying a bag of cash receipts to deposit at the Capital One bank in the Johnson Center.

“The female employee was approached by a male who began conversing with her, punched her in the face and attempted to take the cash receipts,” said Ginovsky, who added the suspect was unable to steal the cash, but stole the victim’s cell phone, which was later recovered nearby.

The Mason community became aware of the incident early Tuesday afternoon when a Mason Alert was sent to their email inboxes and cell phones, notifying them of the assault and robbery on campus.

According to Ginovsky, police are still searching for the suspect described in the Mason Alert message as a black male with dreadlocks and light facial hair, between age 20 and 25, approximately 150 pounds and 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and black pants, riding a green and black bicycle.

Ginovsky said police believe the suspect fled campus following the assault.
