1. Lincoln
When: Thursday, March 21 through Sunday, March 24 at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Where: Johnson Center Cinema
Price: Free with a valid Mason ID

Didn’t get a chance to see Daniel Day Lewis’ Oscar-winning performance as Abraham Lincoln? Have no fear! The Office of Student Involvement will be screening this film for free! Directed by Stephen Spielberg, “Lincoln” focuses on the journey of Abraham Lincoln during the height of the Civil War as he tries to pass the Emancipation Proclamation. Brush up on history the Hollywood way and take a seat this weekend in the JC Cinema.
 

 

2. Environmental Film Festival
When: March 21 until March 24
Where: Various locations around Washington D.C.
Price: Varies by film screening

Celebrating its 21st year as a festival, the annual Washington D.C. Environmental Film Festival is an event you can easily get to for a day of movie watching In its last weekend, the festival includes films focusing on a wide range of environmental issues from animal conservation, water issues and oil to profiles on environmental activists. Including discussions with the filmmakers, you are sure to find something you’ll not only like, but think and learn about at this festival.

3. Gunston Hall Kite Festival
When: Saturday, March 23 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Gunston Hall in Gunston, Va
Price: $10 for adult ages 1-18 are free

Have you never visited the home of our very own George Mason? Well, here’s your chance! Go visit the home of George Mason and welcome spring with Gunston Hall’s Celebration of Spring Kite Festival! Bring your friends or your special someone to enjoy a day of spring festivities with kite flying and 18th century games. Try samples of hearth cooking, and purchase your spring plants for the season. Spend your Saturday the old fashioned way!

4. Dance Gala
When: Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at 8 p.m.
Where: George Mason University’s Center for the Arts
Price: One free student ticket with a valid Mason ID

Featuring performances by students of the George Mason University School of Dance,  the Dance Gala is an eagerly anticipated, annual event. It showcases contemporary works choreographed by Mason’s own dance students, this is a “do not miss” event! The event will feature William Smith III, a School of Dance alumnus, currently a member of the world-famous Mark Morris Dance Group. Having specifically choreographed his piece for the School of Dance students, this event is an opportunity to view unique, original dance pieces performed by Mason’s own.

5. Slamnesty
When: Saturday, March 23 9 p.m.- 11:00 p.m.
Where: Busboys & Poets’ 14th & V location, Washington D.C.Price: Free

If you’re a fan of open mic nights, take a trip to this D.C. favorite foodie location for Slamnesty, an open-mic night focused on human rights. Join the members of Amnesty International, the world’s leading human rights organization, for a night of thoughtful thinking and discourse.
