New options for Virginia to New York travel

Getting to New York City just got easier for Mason students as the DC2NY transportation service announced new departures from the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metro Station on the Orange Line beginning Nov. 23.

The company also announced new departures from the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station on the Blue Line in a new VA2NY push that the company says will better serve customers outside of the district.

Maker drops caffeine from Four Loko

The makers of Four Loko said Tuesday they would reformulate their product to remove caffeine and two other ingredients from their controversial caffeinated alcoholic beverage.

Megabus expands D.C. service

For students interested in exploring cities outside of the D.C. region, the list of options just expanded as Megabus announced plans today to make it’s D.C. stop a travel hub. The move will add ten cities to the arrivals and departures at the Megabus H Street stop. To see the new travel options, read the announcement here.

 Over the next month and a half, thousands of high school seniors will apply for admission to George Mason University – some will succeed, others will fail, but each one has the same goal of joining the Mason nation.

Veterans Day transit changes

Veterans Day tomorrow means CUE Bus and Metro will operate on amended schedules.

CUE Bus will run on a modified weekday schedule, which means service will consist of one bus on each route. CUE Bus schedules are available here.

Metro will run on a Saturday schedule but with a normal weekday opening of 5 a.m. Metro information can be found here.

 

 

Fimian concedes to Connolly

It’s now clear who will represent Virginia’s 11th congressional district in the 112th Congress after Republican Keith Fimian officially conceded the election to incumbent Democrat Gerry Connolly today.

The race between Connolly and Fimian had been too close to call since election night, even with Connolly having a slight advantage that led him to unofficially declare victory that night.

Four Loko concern expands, including Mason

The growing popularity of Four Loko among students on college campuses has universities across the country confronting the so-called “blackout in a can.”

Four Loko is an alcoholic energy drink sold in several flavors at a low price. It contains the alcohol equivalent of 5.6 regular drinks and the caffeine equivalent of three to four cans of Coke, according to a fact sheet provided by Mason’s Office of Alcohol, Drug and Health Education.

Campus connection is topic of work session tonight

Options for connecting the east and west parts of Mason’s Fairfax campus will be at the center of a work session tonight with the Fairfax City Council and university representatives.

The session is billed as an outreach to the community about the proposed traffic changes.

Congressional candidates spar at Mason Inn

Candidates from two of Northern Virginia’s congressional races faced-off over lunch at the Mason Inn Tuesday.

With three weeks to go before voters head to the polls, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce hosted the political debates between the candidates for Virginia’s eighth-congressional district and between the candidates for the 11th-district, which includes Mason’s Fairfax Campus.
