Weekly crime log includes larceny and peepers

In the early morning hours of Oct. 17, a laptop and charger went missing from the Fairfax Campus Starbucks, worth an estimated cost of $1,500. Two days later, property was stolen in President’s Park. On Oct. 20., property valued at $320 was stolen from the Hampton Roads housing building. These thefts, and other crime incidents, are available on the George Mason University Police Department’s Crime Incident Log.

Alcohol incidents more than double on campus

The 2013 Annual Security Report, released in September, shows a drastic increase in alcohol related arrests and referrals on Mason’s Fairfax campus between 2011 and 2012. While the number of alcohol related arrests decreased from 111 arrests in 2010 to 99 in 2011, the number rose sharply to 247 in 2012, representing a 62 percent increase.

Mason Police engage in crisis training

There was a hypothetical shooting last week at the George Mason Campus. This imaginary shooter opened fire in the concourse of the patriot center, no count of the wounded as yet. Police engaged the “shooter” and local Fire and Rescue squads immediately evacuated the victims to nearby hospitals.

Police to target bad driving on Fairfax County Parkway


Commuters to campus who drive on the Fairfax County Parkway should take note that a new police initiative went into effect yesterday to target aggressive and reckless driving.

First task force meeting concerning University Police interaction draws 11 speakers

Update: April 15, 3:19 p.m.

An official university task force formed earlier this month to seek input on “interactions and experiences” with university police held its first of two open meetings Tuesday afternoon.All Students, faculty and staff were able to sign up prior to the meeting, and 11 people who had signed up spoke. 

Each open meeting has 24 time slots for brief statements.

Mason announces that all charges against Abdirashid Dahir dropped

George Mason University announced on March 16 that they have dropped their charges against Abdirashid Dahir for alleged Abduction. The school plans to continue reviewing the case through their own Judicial Affairs process. 

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.

Dahir told Connect2Mason that he is "really happy with how things have turned out in the end," and that "everyone at Mason really is great, this is just a small case of a few people messing up that exploded to something bigger than it should be."
